Sleep Debt: Are You Sleepy?

Sleep debt is a problem that affects the health of many people on a daily basis. It is a condition that can have dangerous consequences if left untreated. Sleep deprivation. is caused by lifestyle habits as well as chronic conditions. Part of the problem is that people often don't even realize that they are losing sleep. And they don't seem to be aware of what is happening to their daily functioning. Some of the causes include; too much caffeine, alcohol, stress, night shift work, and sleep habits.

One example of the danger would be:A person with chronic lack of sleep driving a car is just as dangerous as a person driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

-hallucinations(in extreme cases)

The effects are cumulative over time. As a result, recovery from sleep loss could take many weeks to recover.

In many cases, lifestyle changes can make recovery possible. In other cases, treating a chronic condition such as sleep apnea and others, will help to address the issue. Treatment would include; changes such as turning off the TV, or computer when you go to bed. Medications can help to get you back on track. Medical devices can be prescribed for chronic conditions.

Be sure to check with your doctor if you have any of the symptoms listed. Getting your sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your health ad fitness. In many cases, a simple change can make the difference. Take time to recover from your sleep debt.
