Calesthenics ; Dynamic Exercise Without Special Equipment

Calesthenicsis basically exercises performed with your own bodyweight. It is possible to get a great workout without using any special equipment. On the other hand you can also use a minimal amount of equipment to add a little variety to your routine. Another advantage to a fitness workout is that it can be done just about anywhere. Exercises such as push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and calf-raises don't require a lot of space.

If there is a disadvantage to this type of training, it would be that bodyweight exercise isn't quite as progressive. Unlike weight training, where you can gradually increase the weight used, you would need to find ways to increase the intensity by variety or changing certain positions.

When lifting weights it becomes very easy to gradually add plates to a barbell or adjustable dumbbell. But for the most part you would still be able to workout very effectively with very little equipment. Weight training could be something to plan later if you want to increase the intensity of your exercises.

Working out this way can still help to build strength, flexibility, and agility. While you may not want to train exclusively like this, it can definitely add to other routines for variety and conditioning. This type of training can also easily develop cardiovascular fitness.

Balance and core strength can be improved also just by using your bodyweight. This is important for seniors as lack of use often results in weakened muscles which makes ease of movement difficult.

Don't forget to check with your doctor to see if it is safe for you.If you want to get a good workout with minimal equipment, try calesthenics.
